Mount Teide, Tenerife
There are some people who head to Tenerife to laze on the beach or stay by their hotel pool, soaking up the sunshine before heading out for a night or dancing and drinking, and there are others who have a totally different approach to their holiday.
If you’re the kind of person who loves to be active, then Tenerife has plenty of great choices on offer. Of course, there are water sports galore as there are so many different businesses in operation on the beaches around the island. You can hire all kinds of gear, from jet skis to windsurfers, and join guided dives or take boat trips. Kite surfing is also a really popular beach activity in Tenerife as the island is ideally situated to get some great wind.
And for cyclists there are all kinds of options. You can do road cycling of course, but there are also many mountain bike trails to explore. There are different trails for all kinds of abilities – ranging from semi-surfaced minor roads through to forest trails and really mountainous tracks. As the island gets little rain you can go out virtually any day of the year and find the trails dry and dusty. The only times you might want to check the forecast before you go is during the hottest summer months, when temperatures can reach 30 degrees or more. It’s still possible to head out during these times, but make sure you have plenty of water and sunscreen with you.
There are plenty of other physical activities to do in Tenerife – hiking is another popular pursuit. And with the National Park of Mount Teide to explore, there are some fantastic trails around.
